MAIVAN.ai, the Medical AI Value Network, is an initiative launched in December 2022, coinciding with the advent of ChatGPT. Orthopedic AI developments and their impact on the future of the surgical profession had become center stage.
MAIVAN has since evolved into a non-profit Swiss Association (MAIVAN Verein). Hosted by University Hospital Basel’s Orthopedic & Traumatology Department, the MAIVAN Association is dedicated to conducting and coordinating conformity assessments for AI systems in orthopedics at the MAIVAN network’s hospitals and research centers, ensuring that orthopedic AI solutions meet the stringent safety, performance, and ethical standards required by the EU AI Act and other relevant regulations.
